Arrival & Departure Procedures for the HHI Heliport in Kearny, NJ PREAMBLE The following procedures have been prepared to assist pilots operating into and out of the HHI Heliport in Kearny, New Jersey, in the safest way possible - while avoiding surrounding communities. The following routes are mandatory and will be strictly enforced by Newark Tower and Helo Holdings Inc. The HHI Heliport lies within the 4 NM surface area of Newark’s Class B airspace and a clearance will be necessary from Newark Tower for arrivals and departures into the HHI facility. All users of the Heliport must be a signatory to HHI’s Letter of Agreement (LOA) with Newark Tower (EXHIBIT B). All operator and pilot information will be filed with Helo Holdings Inc. and Newark Tower, including the signed “acknowledgement form” signifying that the operator has read and accepted the arrival and departure procedures. These routes and procedures are not intended to replace the responsibilities of the pilot-in- command for safe aircraft operations, nor are they intended to conflict with instructions from ATC or those instructions which are the exclusive authority of the FAA.
VFR ARRIVAL PROCEDURES BRIDGE ROUTE ARRIVAL: Helicopters arriving from the east or south should request the Bridge Route from Newark Tower. Fly direct to Turnpike extension bridge, then descend to 300 ft. MSL and proceed north up the Passaic River to Heliport. HOLLAND ROUTE: Helicopters arriving from the North or from the Hudson River in the vicinity of Holland tunnel should request the Holland Route. Enter in the vicinity of the Holland Tunnel and fly west on the route towards the Truck 1 & 9 bridge, maintain over Lincoln Highway (Truck 1 & 9) until final approach to Heliport. REMARKS: See Route Map attached for details (Exhibit A). Do not fly west of the West Bank of the Passaic River, maintain over the river at all times.
VFR DEPARTURE PROCEDURES DEPARTING ON BRIDGE ROUTE: Helicopters departing to east or south should request the Bridge Route from Newark Tower. Pilots shall receive the current ATIS at EWR and contact EWR Tower on for departure clearance. Depart and immediately fly south on Passaic river at 300 ft. MSL. As soon as possible pilots shall request a higher altitude for noise abatement and proceed direct to Turnpike Extension Bridge, then fly east towards statue to exit into Hudson River exclusion. HOLLAND ROUTE: Helicopters departing to the north or east should request the Holland Route from EWR Tower on Radio procedures to be the same as the Bridge Route. Depart Heliport to the east over Lincoln Highway (Route 1 & 9), maintain over Lincoln Highway to east to intercept the 280 Route east to Hudson River. REMARKS: See Route Map attached for details (Exhibit A). Do not fly west of the West Bank of the Passaic River, maintain over the river at all times.
SVFR (Special VFR) ARRIVAL PROCEDURES BRIDGE ROUTE ARRIVAL: Helicopters arriving from the east or south should request Special VFR inbound on the Bridge Route from Newark Tower on , during initial contact with EWR Tower, pilots must use code word SWAN for entry into the surface area. (Example: Newark tower, this is helicopter N12345……………N12345 (say location) requesting SWAN routing Special VFR inbound on the Holland/Bridge route to Kearny Heliport) Fly direct to Turnpike extension bridge, then descend to 300 ft. MSL and proceed north up the Passaic River to Heliport. HOLLAND ROUTE: Helicopters arriving from the North or from the Hudson River in the vicinity of Holland tunnel should request Special VFR inbound on the Holland Route from EWR Tower on Pilots must use code word SWAN for entry into surface area Enter in the vicinity of the Holland tunnel and fly west on the route towards the Truck 1 & 9 bridge, maintain over Lincoln Highway (Truck 1 & 9) until final approach to Heliport. SVFR (Special VFR) DEPARTURE PROCEDURES DEPARTING ON BRIDGE ROUTE: Helicopters departing to east or south should request Special VFR outbound on the Bridge Route from Newark Tower on Pilots shall receive the current ATIS and use code word SWAN for entry into surface area. Depart and immediately fly south on Passaic river at 300 ft. MSL. As soon as possible pilots shall request a higher altitude for noise abatement and proceed direct to Turnpike Extension Bridge, then fly east towards statue to exit into Hudson River exclusion. HOLLAND ROUTE: Helicopters departing to the North or East should request outbound on the Holland Route from EWR Tower on Radio procedures to be the same as for the Bridge Route using code word SWAN. Depart Heliport to the east over Lincoln Highway (Route 1 & 9), maintain over Lincoln Highway to east to intercept the 280 Route east to Hudson River. BRIDGE ROUTE ARRIVAL FROM POINTS S.W. OR WEST: Helicopters arriving from the WEST or S.W. should request the Bridge Route via the Newark Route from Newark Tower. Fly Newark route as instructed by tower over the 22 or 4 numbers, proceed east to turnpike bridge and proceed north on Passaic river descending to 300 ft. into Heliport. REMARKS: See Route Map attached for details (Exhibit A). Do not fly west of the West Bank of the Passaic River, maintain over the river at all times.
