Welcome to the Fernwood Middle School “Back-to-School Night” Welcome to the Fernwood Middle School “Back-to-School Night”

I will be your child’s Social Studies teacher for 7 th grade. Dennis Swan B-106

Social studies in 7 th grade will cover United States History I.

Goals for Social Studies Teacher Goals I will work to familiarize each student with the skills needed to study the History of the United States in accordance with the New Jersey Core Content Standards for Social Studies.

Grading System This is a breakdown of each student’s grade in Social Studies. 100% 30% Classwork & Homework 70% Tests, Quizzes, & Projects

Infinite Campus Parent Portal You can log on daily to check on your child’s status.

Homework Students will have daily reading and written assignments for homework. Homework will be collected at the beginning of the day, during homeroom. Assignments handed in late will be worth ½ credit. Homework can be tracked using the Infinite Campus Portal, extra copies of the homework are available if lost or misplaced.

Classwork Students will work in class on Notes, Atlas Activities and Review assignments. Classwork assignments will help to gauge the student’s progress.

Projects Their project grade will consist of projects, presentations, and peer assessments. Projects will also include in-class presentations to showcase their completed work while sharing what they learned with the class.

Quizzes Quizzes are used as an assessment to monitor each student’s progress throughout the chapter. Quizzes will be short and simplistic. Some quizzes will be unannounced.

Tests Tests will always be announced 3-4 days in advance and posted on the daily agenda board. There will always be a review before every exam. If a student misses the review they will be excused from the test until they make up the review. If a student is absent the day of a test, they will be expected to make up the exam upon their return.
