Despite rapid developments in technology and the proliferation of communication infrastructure in the country, the number of telecom and IT players in the North Eastern Region is limited as compared to other regions of the country. Concerted efforts are required to develop the information infrastructure of the region thereby making the region viable and attractive for various IT industries. A highly scalable and robust back bone information network in the state can spearhead revolutionary changes in the state of IT and the economic and social status of the state in particular and the North-Eastern region in general. While the government machinery would become more transparent and information rich, the information backbone network can become effective vehicles to ensure that benefits of IT reach the masses at grass root level.
