Book p.62

Sometimes I am Cinderella all dressed up for the ball. Sometimes I pretend I’m Rapunzel shut up in a tower so tall. Sometimes I’m sleeping beauty especially in winter and fall when it’s far too cold to get up and I don’t want to answer Mum’s call. But the person I play most often is the princess who slept on the pea, for a princess who lives in a palace is just what I am planning to be! Book p.62

Billy and Alice went to the library to borrow some story books. “There are so many different kinds of stories,” said Alice. “I don’t know which kind to get.” Story week Every story has a beginning, a middle and an end. Every story has a setting. Not all stories are the same. Some stories are funny. They can make you laugh right out loud. Some stories are scary. They are so scary that they make you want to hide under your blanket in your bed. Some stories are so sad that they make you cry. Some stories are like puzzles. They make you think hard about the ending. What kind of story do you like? Book p.64

Note the differences in the use of some and every. We use every to refer to all of the stories. We use some to refer to a number of stories.

Book p.65 Billy and Alice chose some books and sat down to read. This is a sad story. I feel like crying. This is a boring story. I think I will get another book.

Book p.65 I like exciting stories. I like funny stories. They make me laugh. I like scary stories.

Alice wanted to write a story about her cat, Blacky. First, she wrote down her ideas in a story web. My cat, Blacky What Blacky looks like:. furry. round. warm Blacky went away I felt sad I looked everywhere Blacky came back She had kittens Book p.68

Then, she wrote her story. She read her story and corrected her mistakes. She wrote her story again.  Blacky is my cat. She is round, warm and furry. She likes fish.  One day, I called Blacky. She did not come. I put fish in her dish. She still did not come. I was very sad. I looked everywhere for her.  Then, I heard a “meow, meow, meow” at the door. I had a look. It was Blacky. There were five little kittens with Blacky. They looked just like her. “ Blacky, you’re a clever cat,’’ I said. Blacky beginning middle end Book p.68

The mean old ogre Book p.70 Long ago, a mean old ogre lived in a forest. One day, he shouted at the animals in the forest, “Dig me a hole for my treasure!” The animals dug a hole. “It’s not deep enough!” shouted the ogre. The animals dug and dug. “It’s still not deep enough!” he shouted again. “We’re tired. Can we rest?” asked the poor animals. “No!” roared the ogre. “You’ re just lazy! Dig! The animals dug some more. “Is the hole big enough now?” They asked. “It’s still not big enough,” grumbled the ogre. “Oh, yes it is!” said the animals and they pushed the ogre in. “It’s big enough for a mean old ogre.” “Get me out!” cried the ogre. “Only after you learn some manners,” laughed the animals and that was the last they heard of him.
