Assisted Living Facilities Models in Public Housing 2 BACKGROUND Marrulut EniitDillingham, Alaska The elders of Alaska’s Bristol Bay region are predominately Native American, and a vital cultural resource to Yupik Eskimo and Aleut families. Marrulut Eniit enables elders who need assisted living care to remain near family and friends. Previously the closest assisted living facilities were in Anchorage, and transition to unfamiliar urban environments often accelerated Alaskan elders’ demise.

Each unit includes a small living area, bedroom and kitchen area. Attendant Caretakers are available 24-hours a day.

The Bristol Bay Housing Authority provides contract management and employs Marrulut Eniit’s staff. HUD “Best Practices” Recognition The first state-licensed assisted living facility in rural Alaska, Marrulut Eniit received the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s “Best Practices” Award in August, 2000.
