In the metro areas u Pacific Bell providing OC-48 (2,400 Mbps) SONET rings in LA, SF, SD areas u Connect CSU campuses, Qwest POPs at OC-3c, OC-12c u Some campuses (LB, SB, POM, SON, HUM) are too ‘far’ from the rings to be included

What’s SONET? u High-speed optical (fiber) networking u Ring topology means that circuit failures don’t cause outages -- traffic re-routes around the ring in less than a second
