Presentation transcript:

No Yes Do nothing for the unit, but refer potential candidates to other units with known openings. Develop marketing plans to attract underrepresented faculty. Implement a marketing campaign. After discussion within unit, does unit have or project faculty opening? Faculty Diversity Composition Initiative (FDCI) Program Flowchart Advertise usage of FDCI as vehicle to fill opening. Yes Does the unit have a cadre of venues where it can advertise its openings? Decision 1 Decision 2 Action 1 Action 2 Key Objectives: Provide opportunity for achievement of a terminal degree; Increase faculty diversity within academic units

No Yes Back to “Decision 2, Yes.” Potential faculty completes FDCI application and prepares documents for submission. Has a potential faculty member been identified from any venue? Faculty Diversity Composition Initiative (FDCI) Program Flowchart Bring the potential faculty for discussion about FDCI opportunity. Yes Is there agreement between unit and potential faculty that FDCI is mutually beneficial? Back to “Decision 3.” Decision 3 Decision 4 Action 3 Action 4

No Yes Back to “Decision 3” at the unit’s discretion after an agreed upon submission period has lapsed. OC examines and forwards recommendation to President for approval or non-approval of funding. Has FDCI application and associated documents been submitted by the potential faculty member? Faculty Diversity Composition Initiative (FDCI) Program Flowchart The unit reviews documents, initiates contract & forwards to Oversight Committee for approval. Yes Has the OC received FDCI documentation and recommendation from a unit planning to use the FDCI program? OC should wait to receive FDCI documentation from unit. Decision 5 Decision 6 Action 5 Action 6

No Option 1: Candidate not funded; back to “Decision 3” (If unapproved twice, Option 2 is unavailable.) Option 2: Unit may submit additional documentation to the OC in an attempt to gain reversal of the President’s decision. Back to “Action 5.” Did the president approve funding the potential faculty member for participation in the FDCI? Faculty Diversity Composition Initiative (FDCI) Program Flowchart Unit makes funding request to Office of the President based upon fiscal expectations out in contract Yes Decision 7 Action 7

Anticipated Actions/Results: The unit tracks potential faculty member’s progress at the terminal degree institution and establishes a partnership relationship with the institution to help ensure favorable development experiences of the candidate while pursuing his/her degree. The unit assigns a mentor to conduct both mentoring and arranged unit meetings with the potential faculty throughout the terminal degree pursuit to help ensure support needed by the potential faculty member and readily establish unit relationships prior to the faculty member’s onboarding after degree completion. Data resulting from usage of the FDCI will be profiled with those of other campus- wide diversity initiatives. Units will use FDCI program success for accreditation support.
