GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 7 Working Group on Geo Mobile Radio (2) The GMR specifications are organized into two releases: –Release 1 specifications. Defines the GMR circuit mode services, which are based on the GSM phase 2 circuit mode services. Release 1 of the GMR air interface specifications have been published jointly in ETSI (TC-SES) and in the TIA (TR 34.1) –Release 2 specifications. Defines the GMR packet mode services (GMPRS) which are based on the GSM phase 2+ packet mode services (GPRS). Release 2 specifications are an evolution of the GMR Release 1 specifications.

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 14 Working Group Aeronautical Ku band (3) ETSI candidate Harmonised Standard draft EN for Ku-band AES present status: ETSI TC-SES draft EN , requirements for: Protection to FSS systems (e.g. VSAT); Protection to Fixed Service and Radio Astronomy systems via PFD mask; WRC-03, Agenda Item 1.11: Will decide on secondary allocation to AMSS in GHz; WRC-03 outcome (allocation and protection requirements) will be taken into account in the public enquiry of draft EN ;.

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 15 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia  To produce specifications, standards and other ETSI deliverables for broadband satellite multimedia. This includes: –Definition of satellite system architectures supporting broadband services –Service requirements and descriptions for broadband communications systems –Definition of network architectures and interface protocols leading to air interface standards, interworking standards and other user terminal specifications.  To liaise with relevant other standardization bodies (e.g. TIA, ITU) on satellite matters

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 16 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia ( 2) Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia ( 2)  The BSM concept is to divide the air interface into 2 parts:  Satellite independent upper layers  Satellite dependent lower layers  The upper layers should contain a set of common IP interworking functions: –Common ways of handling IP addressing, multicast and QoS etc.  The lower layers contain the satellite specific parts. –These layers are closely tied to the payload capability of the satellite and hence cannot be the same in all cases.

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 17 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia ( 3) Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia ( 3)  BSM WG has set the following priorities: –GSO satellites –Fixed systems –Internet Protocol IPv4, IPv6  Current work items:  IP interworking standards Satellite Independent set of higher layer standards  Air interfaces Satellite dependent families of lower layer specifications  Satellite Independent interface (SI-SAP) Common interface between higher layers and lower layers

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 18 Working Group European Co-operation for Space Standardisation(1) Satellite Ground Interface Command and Control Link of Geostationnary Satellites  Domain Telemetry, Command and Ranging (TCR) systems operating typically in the following bands: 5850 MHz;6725 MHz uplink, 3400 MHz;4200 MHz downlink, MHz;14800 MHz and17300 MHZ;18100 MHz uplink, MHZ;12750 MHz downlink  Sets : out the minimum performance requirements and technical characteristics of the ground/satellite Radio Frequency (RF) interface partially based on Spread Spectrum Multiple Access (SSMA).  Motivation : Management of the co-location constraints for maximization of bandwidth for Communications Missions, and interference minimisation

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 19 Working Group European Co-operation for Space Standardisation(2) Satellite Software Data Handling Interfaces (SSDHI)  Domain : Geostationary Communications Satellite architectures based on ISO OSI Reference Model or SOIF Reference Model, but could also be applied to other types of satellites.  Sets : the minimum definition, services and interfaces requirements of the satellite communication application layer  Motivation : Shorter and shorter communications satellites development cycles and compatibility requested with off the shelf equipments requires interface standardisation. Independent development of On Board Software (OBSW) of the choice of satellite equipment by standardisation the software specifications of the Interface between the application software and the communication services.

GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT GSC-8, OTTAWA Slide 20 Rapporteurs- Liaison Officers Rapporteurs: –ITU R WP 4B (FSS) –ITU R WP 8D (MSS) –ITU R WP 8F (IMT2000) –ITU T SG 13 (QOS) Liaison Officers: –Eurocae (Aeronautical) –TIA TR (BSM) –ITU ICG SAT (Satellite) –ASMS TF (S-UMTS)
