Decomposition Take away method

2- Line up your partitioned numbers into the same column values ◦HTU◦HTU You can’t take 2 away from 9!

3- Decompose if you need to! If you decompose a number, always make sure it still adds up to the original number. I’m going to transfer a ten across to the units column to allow me to carry out the subtraction.  = (still equals) 472 One TEN has moved across

4- Subtract each column ◦HTU◦HTU

5- Add your answers together ◦HTU◦HTU
