eXtension  connects knowledge consumers with knowledge providers - experts who know their subject matter inside out - via interactive learning

Interactive Learning  available to students, researchers, clinicians, professors, as well as the general public, at any time from any Internet connection  solve real-life problems in real time  use of digital technology and “area- specific” computing

Resource Areas or CoPs  foundation of eXtension  typically multi-institutional, multi-state, and multi-disciplinary  forms first as a Community of Interest  as it grows, professional educators join together to form a Community of Practice (CoP)

Benefits of CoPs  national recognition and leadership  sustainability of educational products and programs  higher quality, interactive, online educational materials  increased reach and impact of products produced  more efficient use of resources and technology

Benefits of CoPs  less duplication of effort  enhanced access to national resources  increased skill sets for faculty and staff  more efficient use of faculty and staff time  better customer services  reduction of redundant activity

Setting up a CoP  go to eXtension.org and search the topic  identify interested individuals or existing groups  set up a meeting to share ideas on forming a CoP  identify the Community of Interest you will serve

Setting up a CoP  identify existing products to use that can have the most impact initially  identify existing or potential new funding sources  decide the scope of your CoP  identify the core leadership group  user generated groups

Review  Name the eXtension URL  How might it be useful to the LTAP community?  Define Community of Practice and how one is created
