Licensure 15+ states have introduced APRN legislation – Lack of consistency in titles – Regulation of advance practice is different in each state Compliance with the grandfathering clause NCSBN Certification and Accreditation Guidelines April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Accreditation CCNE Standards Committee – Reviewing standards for compliance with the Model Requires separate courses for 3 P’s since 2005 – Reviewing compliance with APRN certificate programs – Anticipated implementation of revisions in 2013 – CCNE will continue to accredit all master’s programs – 120 DNP Programs; 99 in planning stages April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Accreditation COA – revising standards for practice doctorates (2012) 3 P’s required as of 2015 – 112 accredited nurse anesthesia programs plus 37 post- master’s completion degree offerings – 7 entry-level and 9 post-master’s degree completion programs award doctoral degrees ACNM – all schools require the 3 P’s – Difficulty implementing model since not all programs are in schools of nursing April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Certification ANCC – Exams are on target for review/revision in accordance with the Model – Study data available May/June 2012 – Pediatric Nurse Practitioners exam will be renamed the Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner exam – Role delineation studies for CNS certifications – CNS exams will be available 2014 April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Certification NCC – The Just Ask Campaign – American Milestones – Continuing Competency Initiative – Total registration for all NCC exams in 2011 was 11,128 In 2011, 348 graduates took NNP exam and 461 took the WHNP exam April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Primary Health Care The ultimate goal of primary health care is better health for all. WHO has identified five key elements to achieving that goal: reducing exclusion and social disparities in health (universal coverage reforms); organizing health services around people's needs and expectations (service delivery reforms); integrating health into all sectors (public policy reforms); pursuing collaborative models of policy dialogue (leadership reforms); and increasing stakeholder participation. April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Education NONPF Statement on Distinction between Acute and Primary Care – MDs rethinking broad base – Physician assistants are seen as more flexible across all ages and sites Alignment with population foci DNP as entry level requirement Integration of inter-professional educational strategies and distance education April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

NACNS Statement on Consensus Model Variability in state title protection of the CNS; Inconsistency in state adoption of the grandfathering of the CNS; Lack of a regulatory approach to accepting grandfathered CNSs to practice in other states; CNSs losing jobs based on misperceptions of the Model; Certifiers have not developed population-based CNS examinations for all populations resulting in limited certification examinations for the CNS; Accrediters establishing changes with limited time for schools to respond; Curriculum challenges; April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Sociopolitical Implications To say that LACE is confusing and inconsistent is an understatement ( Federal Trade Commission Confusion over 2015 deadline April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois

Current & Future Initiatives LACE Initiatives – Statement on Age Parameters for APRNs – Statement on CNS roles BSN to DNP Special cases and individual gap analysis Innovations to Advance the Consensus Model – Virtual Advocacy Communities (NANN) – Consensus Model 101 April 25, 2012 APRN Roundtable Chicago, Illinois
