Osmosis Jones

What is the definition of osmosis? The diffusion of water (from a high concentration to a low concentration) through a selectively permeable membrane. Did you get it right?

How is your egg doing with it’s osmosis problems?

Remember it is due soon……

Copy and write the answers: 1. Osmosis Jones is a _______ _______cell. 2. Osmosis Jones job is to ________Frank from _________. 3. Why did Shane tell Frank he should eat better? 4. How are your eating habits? 5. Where do Osmosis and Thrax land when they left Frank’s body?_________ 6. Can a WBC really move like Osmosis did? If so why and how? 7. What did Thrax land in that killed him?________________ 8. Osmosis Jones is part of the ___________ body system. 9. What are the organs that are associated with the body system that Osmosis Jones is an important part of? ( 10 parts!)

Here are the parts----- Lymphatic vessels Lymph nodes Tonsils and adenoids Thymus gland Peyer’s patch Spleen WBC Bone marrow- wbc, rbc, platelets Lymph fluid So what are these organs a part of----??????

The immune system!!

What are all the parts of the immune system for? To protect your body from germ invaders

When germs enter the body your immune system will attack and kill!!

Does your immune system always win? NOPE!!!!

How do you help your immune system to you? 1. Get the right amount of sleep 8-9 hours for your age. 2. Eat fruits, veggies, proteins like fish,---very light on the sweets. Garlic and onions are great for your immune system. 3. Take a multivitamin each day. 4. Get exercise—about one hour a day is good. Work up slowly if you are just beginning. 5. Keep your stress level down—stress is very hard on your immune system if you do not control it. Yoga and listening to quiet relaxing music is good to help calm you.

Let’s make a list…… Take the next 3 minutes and write down as many immune “incidents” that you can remember from the movie. By incidents I mean how was the immune system fighting for and to protect Frank’s body. Example-mucus produced to trap pollen grains.

Last journal entry for Osmosis What part of Osmosis Jones seemed the most real to you and why? Explain it in “Immune System” terms.
