Carbon Footprint Reduction By Olivia Pattee

What is a carbon footprint? How our activities effect the environment A measure of greenhouse gases we produce Typically measured in tons of CO2 Contributes to global warming and climate change Primary footprint: direct emissions Secondary footprint: indirect emissions

The average carbon footprint of one person in the US is approximately 27 tons of CO2 The average of one person in the world is approximately 5.5 tons of CO2

Energy-Efficient Light bulbs Easy way to help fight global warming and become energy-efficient Energy-efficient light bulbs are compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) Can be purchased in many hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) Can be used the way incandescent light bulbs are used

CFLs’ Impact 4x more efficient Uses approximately 65% less energy than incandescent Last 10x as long Less expensive in the long run 1 CFL= ½ ton CO2 not in the atmosphere Provides a “warm, inviting light” instead of the harsh light like older fluorescents YouTube - Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
