Georgia Professional Standards Commission Teacher Shortage Fall 2008 Shortage is defined here as teachers of record (classroom teachers) who lack full certification, or in Georgia terminology Clear Renewable certification. These data are reported in terms of Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs). Some individuals teach in multiple areas. Many teach as only part of their total responsibilities. There were a total of 121,936 educators who were reported to have been teacher of record for at least part of the day during the fall count taken in October, Certification status was determined as of October 10, Produced by GaPSC from GADOE CPI09-1 and GaPSC certification data. © 2009 GaPSC April 16, 2009

Georgia Professional Standards Commission ADAC CERTIFICATE Minimum master’s degree with major in certificate field for grades 6-12 in any Clear Renewable teaching field, OR Juris Doctor degree to teach Political Science Assigned a mentor/coach for minimum 1-year Three 1-year validity periods and cannot be renewed or extended after maximum 3 years IDP required Is transferable to another system in same certification field Can switch to another certification path Completes basic skills, content & pedagogy assessments and Special GA Requirements before recommendation After 1-year minimum in program, converts to Clear Renewable upon recommendation

Georgia Professional Standards Commission NON-RENEWABLE NON-PROFESSIONAL Bachelor’s degree minimum with 2.5 GPA Pre-requisite basic skills and content assessments (except for Special Ed fields) 5-year validity and cannot be renewed or extended Completes approved traditional program, applicable content assessment, and Special GA Requirements for recommendation Converts to Clear Renewable certificate upon recommendation of program provider Highly Qualified years ONLY
