Goal of New Professional Project Process The new process is designed to help both students and advisors. –Students: provide a more structured environment for students (3, 8 week, 1 credit hour, courses) –Advisors: allow advisors to focus on content advisement while having facilitators focus on the process of the project

Basic Structure of the New Process Students will now take 3, 1 Credit Hour, 8 Week Sessions meeting 1 night per week for 1 hour and 20 minutes. –MSC 696 A – Professional Project Proposal Course: This course is designed as the key first course for moving students through the Professional Project Process. The course will introduce students to the basics of project management and thesis writing. Students will work extensively on developing and getting approved a project proposal which includes a high level project plan. Students will also be required to deliver a project abstract, executive summary and expanded outline along with their approved proposal –Pre-requisites: all core courses: 600, 620, 645 along with at least 3 other MSCIT courses.

Basic Structure of the New Process Continued –MSC 696 B – Professional Project Paper Course: This course is designed to be taken once a student has completed MSC 696 A and a first draft of their Professional Project paper that has been approved by their faculty advisor. The course will allow students to fine tune their papers from a grammar and structure perspective following the APA guidelines. Students will edit their papers until a final approved paper is delivered that will be submitted for binding and publication in the Regis Library. –Pre-requisite: MSC 696 A

Basic Structure of the New Process Continued –MSC 696 C – Professional Project Presentation Course: This course is will allow students to create and present their Professional Projects. Student will work with the faculty and students in revising and delivering their presentations until a final, formal presentation is given to the class, the faculty, the student’s faculty advisor and other invited guests. –Pre-requisite: MSC 696 A and MSC 696 B (still pending)

Timeline for New Process Implementation (Tentative) Spring 8 Week –MSC 696 A – Professional Project Proposal Summer 8 Week –MSC 696 B – Professional Project Paper Summer 8 Week –MSC 696 C – Professional Project Presentation Online Courses for MSC 696A – C are being planned. An implementation schedule for these course has not yet been approved.

Transition of Current Students to New or Old Process Students wishing to remain in the current process must have their advisor submit a completed proposal by 12/15/01 to Don Ina – Students remaining in the current process will be allowed to take the old MSC 696 class. This class will be offered throughout the 2002 year will less offerings in 2003, etc. –The deadline to finish a project under the old process is determined by the student’s degree plan. –Students needing to schedule a MSC 696 class because none are being offered should contact Trisha Litz;

Transition of Current Students to New or Old Process Students wanting to go through the New 696 Process need to merely sign up for the MSC 696A class when they are ready to begin the Professional Project Process – start writing their proposal.

Further Communication and Updates Communication about the changes around the Professional Project will be done through posting materials on the MSCIT website along with sending out updates as needed to the student rep meetings, in the first night faculty packets for classroom dissemination, in Regis newsletters, etc. If you have any questions or need more information about the Professional Project Changes, please contact Trisha Litz, Graduate Faculty,

Project Idea Sources Getting a Professional Project Idea: In order to assist students with generating ideas for their professional projects, there will be lists of potential projects posted to the MSCIT website starting in March of Approximately once per quarter, a professional project brainstorming session will be held at different campus locations to help students generate ideas. These session will begin in February 2002.
