Course Redesign: Co-Requisite Models Dr. Loretta Ussery Griffy Austin Peay State University Center for Teaching & Learning, Director Department of Mathematics & Statistics, Professor

Co-Requisite Models Core requirement course appropriate for student’s degree plan Coupled with a support that involves structured learning assistance At APSU, the support is a 2 hour lab lead by upper-level or graduate students and designed by mathematics faculty Mandatory –mathematics course options –professional development for structured learning assistants –professional development for faculty –develop and constantly look to your measure of success –identify purpose of lab

Developmental Mathematics Co-Requisite Model Core Credit Earned Traditional Delivery Co-Requisite Delivery Liberal Arts 11%78% Statistics 8%65%

What does this look like? Students that need learning support and those that don’t are enrolled in the same general education core requirement course. Structured learning assistant attends class and following class goes to the lab with students who will benefit from learning support. Structured learning assistants work on activities that contribute to success in the general education course AND coach students through algebraic modules to address competencies identified by governing board.
