What Science(s) Should I Take Next Year???

Science Courses Offered at WHS Earth Science (Honors & Academic) Biology (Honors & Academic) Chemistry Physics (Conceptual & Physics) Environmental Explorations AP Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) Independent Science Research (12 th grade)

What Would I Do In an AP Science? AP Physics C - Mechanics – This course covers the same topics from the first half of Physics but delves in deeper by applying Calculus to the concepts previously learned. AP Biology – explore in great detail the study of life from the molecular level to the environmental level. Using lab, lecture, and independent study students will gain a greater appreciation for the intricate details of life. AP Chemistry – opportunity to extend their learning of general and analytical chemistry at a college level

What Do I Need To Know (Pre-requisite Knowledge/Skills) AP Physics Pre-requisite – Physics Pre-requisite/Co-requisite: AP Calculus AB or BC AP Biology Pre-requisite – Biology Pre- requisite/Co-requisite – Chemistry AP Chemistry Pre-requisite - Chemistry

What Makes a Student Successful in AP Sciences? Students should have a strong foundation in math and pre-requisite courses. You must be able to direct yourself in thought and study. This course is driven by the students, not the teacher. VERY different from other science course structure. You must able to work independently, be an active learner, and interact well with others. Able to study at least one hour per night

Why Do Students Take This AP Science? Physics – Students typically take this course because they have an interest in the engineering field. However, the exposure to the course is helpful in all areas of study including medicine, business, and law. Don’t count it out just because you don’t plan on pursuing the Sciences in college. Biology - Because they have an interest in pursuing a biology/medical career in college. Chemistry – Have an interest in pursuing a chemical/engineering career in college
