“Patient Centered Cases An Interprofessional Approach” Interprofessional Education “Patient Centered Cases An Interprofessional Approach” 135 small groups of 13 health professional students +1 faculty facilitator Obesity and Asthma Rheumatoid Arthritis Tuberculosis Diabetes Cardiovascular/Hypertension meet with nine fellow students and one faculty facilitator for several case studies. Initial cases concentrate on honing your communication and interpersonal skills, analyzing ethical issues, and developing your understanding of the other professions. Intermediate and advanced level IPE courses focus more on the diagnosis and treatment of standardized patients you’ll see in the simulation lab, or real-life cases This course is required for our entry level first-year students from our nine (9) health professional programs: osteopathic medicine, optometry, dental medicine, podiatric medicine, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy.  Students from four additional health care disciplines: public health, occupational therapy assistant, medical assistant, and diagnostic imaging participate from Oregon State University (OSU) and Linn Benton Community College (LBCC) Pediatric Adolescent Young Adult Middle Age Adult Older Adult (65) plus First semester cases focus on team building, communication and other vital interprofessional skills. Second semester cases emphasize cultural sensitivity, ethical dilemmas and end of life issues.

Block Design of Curriculum Unique in nature, WesternU first to offer amongst colleges of pharmacy nationwide. First year modified block 10 blocks/year (starts in 2nd year to mid 3rd year) Each block 18 days in length, 6 h/day 5th, 10th and 16th block is an integrated block for 15-18 days.

IPPE Clinical Experience Early introduction to clinical work: Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) P-1 (4) weeks in Fall and Spring in a community pharmacy P-2 (4) weeks in the Summer in a hospital pharmacy IPPE: Assigned based on the distance of WesternU campus and where you live.
