Map of the Republic of Congo

Geography The country is slightly smaller than the state of Montana The Congo River forms most of the eastern boundary of Congo. Flooding from the river is a natural hazard and wreaks havoc on agriculture and housing. 70% of the people of Congo live in Brazzaville, the capital.

The Republic of Congo Congo (Brazzaville) is often confused with its much larger neighbor, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire), which borders the country to the east. Located on the west coast of Africa, Congo was formerly known as French Equatorial Africa. Civil war has been raging in this country for years. Now at peace, the people are suffering from the effects of war.

A cobbler tries to earn a living in his flood ravaged home near Brazzaville.

The Salvation Army feeds the hungry… The Salvation Army has established a feeding program in Brazzaville to help thousands of people a week survive. Hungry, dirty, displaced children roam the streets without supervision or anyone to care for them.

The Salvation Army in Congo Rebuilding from the devastation of war, The Salvation Army has established new clinics, a school for the blind and several new corps facilities (centers of worship and service).

The Salvation Army in Congo Typhoid fever is rampant but vaccinations are provided by The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army has established a successful adult literacy program in the country. Most of The Salvation Army soldiers (members of The Salvation Army church) are poor and ill themselves but continue to serve with “a heart to God and hand to man.”
