Daily Reflection Prompt: Write 3 questions that you have about Physics

Are we in motion right now? We are traveling about 30 km per second (about 20 miles per second) right now! Earth orbits around the sun. Earth moves about 30 km every second. At that speed we will get to New York City in about 2 minutes

Can we feel speed? No. You can’t feel the speed inside a fast moving car You can’t feel the speed inside a passenger jet You can’t feel the speed of earth moving around the sun. What are we really feeling inside a moving car? We only feel the acceleration.

Why is a reference point important? Because it is used for comparison to determine if something is in motion

Difference between Distance and Displacement Distance is the total length of the actual path between two points. Displacement is the length and direction of a straight line between starting and ending points.

What is a Vector A quantity that consists of both a magnitude and a direction is called a vector.

What is the International System of Units for measuring length? Meter How many centimeter in a meter? 100 centimeter in a meter How many meters are there in a kilometer? 1000 meter in a kilometer

What is the formula for calculating speed?

Which Speed is fastest?

Which Speed is fastest? 1.5 km cm 3.2 km m

Which Speed is fastest? 1.5 km / hr cm / hr 3.2 km / sec m / hr 2 km/sec is the fastest We need both the distance and time unit of measurement to determine speed

What is average speed? The total traveled divided by the total time elapsed. The speed of an object along the path traveled can vary

What is difference between velocity and speed? Velocity: Speed of the object and direction of motion Speed: Just the speed. We don’t know the direction of motion

A car was traveling north at 50 km/hr. It started to travel northwest at 50 km/hr. Did the speed change? Did the velocity change? Speed did not change Velocity changed
