EVERY EMPLOYEE IS PART OF THIS PROGRAM! Fire Prevention at UCAR

Fire Prevention Before we think about preventing an accidental fire from starting, lets think about how we’d intentionally start a fire. We need:  Fuel  Heat source  Oxygen We prevent a fire from starting by controlling these elements. However, we won’t be adjusting oxygen levels in the air as a fire prevention method!

Fire Prevention – control fuel Control flammable and combustible materials  Storage cabinets  Paper in files or shelves  No Mountains of Paper

Fire Prevention – control heat Control spark sources:  Welding/cutting controlled by a Hot Operations Permit  No lit candles  No Smoking in buildings  Designated smoking areas are outside

Fire Prevention - Extinguish Keep sprinkler system clear Keep fire extinguishers clear Attend training
