NOTE: Refer to picture (right) to perform the following procedure. 2 Perform zero check on meter: a.Depress green MC logo button located under display screen and press again when EMCEE is displayed on screen. b. The display will scroll through the test operation, afterward a “0” reading should display. 3 Perform over-range check: a.Insert probe into a sample of isopropanol. b.Depress MC logo button once and then again when EMCEE is displayed. c.At the end of the test period in lieu of displaying a numerical value the display will read “OVER” indicating the measurement is over range ( > 2000 pS/m) and the meter is operating properly. CAUTION: Conductivity meter must be grounded before and after introduction of the probe into the sample and remain grounded. 4 Ensure 500-ml stainless beaker is thoroughly clean and dry – beaker may be rinsed with sample prior to testing if ample sample amount is available. 5Rinse conductivity probe thoroughly with sample fuel to remove any residue. EquipmentMaterials and Reagents  Emcee 1153 Digital Conductivity Meter  Thermometer  Toluene  Isopropanol  500-ml beaker (stainless steel) Scope / Objective This procedure covers the measurement of the electrical conductivity of petroleum products. A voltage is applied across two electrodes submerged in the fuel sample using a portable meter. The resulting current is expressed as a conductivity value (picosiemens/meter). Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By:

Electrical Conductivity of Aviation and Distillate Fuels by Emcee 1153 Digital Meter Continued 6Fill sample beaker approximately ¾ full with test fuel. 7To initiate the test, depress the MC logo button once and then again when EMCEE is displayed (red LED light begins blinking). 8Insert probe into sample up to and covering the 4 holes in probe – “READ NEW DATA” will display on screen. NOTE: Never allow probe to touch bottom or sides of beaker during testing. 9Red LED light will stop blinking and remain on – hold meter steady during test period. NOTE: A broken line ( ) will blink on and off 3 times at 3 second intervals during test period. At end of test, LED will extinguish. 10“NEW DATA pS/M” will display on screen followed by the result of the test and temperature of sample – record results for reporting. 11Clean probe with isopropanol and/or toluene and return to storage box.
