MD, KM, VP, GW This group are the middle road performers who have shown varied performances in milestones To list (without prompts) under bullet points exactly what should be included in the answers to the questions. To recall all information learnt in the lesson effectively. (achieve target grade on exam questions) KW, AK, ES, EJ, RS In their exam Amy (29%), Ella (35%), Kelsey (21%) & Emily (26%) underachieved and missed their target. Ruby is yet to sit the MOC exam but has missed her target in previous milestones by up to 43%. RISK & CHALLENGE

One of the main appeals to many participants of physical activity is that it offers both a challenge and an acceptable level of risk. This must always remain in balance to ensure that activities are safe and suitable

CHALLENGING ACTIVITIES Some activities are clearly more challenging than others OAA have many challenges – *Climbing *Surfing These types of activities require the environment to be challenging in order to make taking part worthwhile

CHALLENGE - WITHIN ACTIVITIES

RISK ASSESSMENT Potential hazards or dangers are spotted before any physical activity is undertaken. All aspects of the sporting environment have to be considered in order to be sure that a degree of challenge is still present but that safety is fully considered. What potential hazards/dangers may be spotted?

RISK CONTROL Every effort has to be made by the participant and those in charge to ensure that the activity continues in a safe manner once the correct level of risk assessment has been carried out

PARTICIPANTS ORGANISERS

PARTICIPANTS -Perform within the rules & regulations -Avoid foul play and inappropriate behaviour - Ensure their equipment is in good order ORGANISERS -Fully qualified and knowledgeable to be in charge -Do not mix age or gender groups, have too many people taking part - Ensure groups have warmed up properly

Safeguards First-aid equipment available Location of qualified first aiders or telephones are located

Exam questions Challenging activities need to have had a risk assessment completed about them. What is a risk assessment? (1 Mark) How can Participants and organisers play a part in Risk Control? (4 Marks) a)Participant: b) Organisers:

ACTIVITY LEVELS AND NEEDS They will obviously vary between individuals

Activity Needs Activity needs will vary between different activities because they will all place varying demands on the performer

Activity needs Individual factors such as age Recreational activities only have a requirement to take part Competitive activities - highly committed Performance Levels – top level have to dedicate a lot of time Page 22 for the definitions

Activity Effects The level at which you perform is also going to have an effect on you High levels of participation Low and infrequent levels

Activity Effects The level at which you perform is also going to have an effect on you High levels of participation Health benefits Enjoyment of the social aspect Satisfaction of successful competition Low and infrequent levels Have little or no positive effect

Training

TRAINING – turn sheet over Who goes to a training session? How often? Length of time? Is that free or do you have to pay?

Available Time In order to become better time is needed to train. Professional performers will have a free choice of when to train BUT for amateur performers fitting in training times can be hard

Available funds Amount of money you have available will also have an effect More funding can mean: More time Better training facilities and equipment Possibility to hire a specialist trainer or fitness coach

Levels of Participation Performers at the highest level will seek to train as often as possible. For some performers this would be on a daily basis and PERIODISATION would be considered. This is to ensure they PEAK at the right time (competition/major tournament etc)

This takes into account the competitive year: Pre-Season – initial preparation, concentrating on fitness, developing techniques specific to activity Peak Season – concentration on skills, ongoing fitness sessions as well as taking part in actual competition Post-Season (or Off-Season) – mainly period of rest and recovery but still need to keep up levels of general fitness

In many activities now there are all-year-round demands on performers.
