Child Outcomes begin at Referral Take a look at the following script – how would you change it to be more inclusive of the child outcomes?

We are the Early Intervention program of Candy Land. We provide services to help with a young child’s development. We work with child up to the age of 3. Some examples of services we provide are ST, PT and Education. We start with a free developmental assessment to determine if your child is eligible for our program. If your child is eligible and we begin a service, that is when we would begin charging a fee.

Revised Script (Referral)

Child Outcomes at Intake Take a look at the following script – how would you change it to be more inclusive of the child outcomes?

Your Service Coordinator will schedule an appointment to meet with you in your home to go over more information and conduct an assessment on your child. During the assessment she will ask you questions about things your child can do. Then the Eligibility Committee will determine if your child is eligible.

Revised Script (Intake)

Domains to Outcomes Practice Session –Decided upon one person to serve in the role as “parent” in case you need additional child/family information. –Re-write the narrative from the developmental domains into the 3 child outcomes. –Share

Purpose of the IFSP Legal Document Contract between ITC and the family Goal Setting Assessment Results More than all this – it is a snapshot that the family will look back at how their child was developing – be sure to honor the child and the family

What about… The first step to implementation is to truly understand the process. We have held the “outliers” until the end for this reason. Examples of what to do in infrequent situations.

Take Aways for your locality What do you think you can try next week in your own system?

Suggestions Do you have suggestions for our early implementers or for the regional trainings that are being planned prior to the 7/1/13 implementation date?
