From Art to Art in Slovakia October – December 2010

Our Comenius room

After the project meeting in Turkey... at school Dissemination – our director Alena Barancová, teachers Martina Boratková and Elvíra Pillárová presented the results of the first project meeting in Konya in Turkey. The article was published in our local newspaper called Tempo: ZŠ Malinovského in Europe.

... in the local press

Interpretation We worked in our Comenius room We studied all PowerPoint presentations Our students painted Romanian paintings We interpreted Delacroix´s painting Liberty leading the people – we created the scene from the Velvet revolution that took place in Czechoslovakia in 1989.

Romanian paintings - reproduction Laura Badalová and her paintings – she´s got a real talent...

Velvet revolution 1989 In November 1989 students in Czechoslovakia manifestated in the streets. They wanted to demonstrate their disagreement with the communism. This peaceful manifestation led to the fall of communist government.

Symbols of the revolution Flag of Czechoslovakia In January 1993, Czech and Slovak republic were born. Slogans: Liberty Public against violence Democracy

Candles – symbol of peace – Velvet or Gentle revolution Jingling of keys symbolizing the unlocking of doors.

Our Art technique Puppets made of corn leaves are traditional folk products. They describe scenes from the country life. We made these traditional puppets from crepe paper. We used crepe paper of the various colours, wire, cotton wool, thread, scissors, glue, decorations.

Christmas workshop Each year our school organizes Christmas workshop. Teachers, pupils and their parents work together to make traditional Christmas souvenirs (postcards, decorations) or meals (gingerbreads, waffles, punch). This year we also demonstrated our partners´ art techniques: stained glass, calligraphy, masks and weaving. See article in local newspaper: „Christmas workshop and international relationships“.

Christmas play The last school day before holidays our teacher Martina Boratkova and her pupils from theatre workshop performed a Christmas play. Actors used traditional Romanian masks and the result was perfect, see the photos.

Comenius medals After the play, the students were awarded special medals for their participation in Comenius Christmas workshop. On one side we put a logo of the project and on the other the flag of the country and art technique.

We enjoyed a lot all activities we did thanks to our project. We look forward to the next theme : History. We hope it will help us get to know better and prepare our first big meeting in Partizánske.
