Traditional Polish game Wolf and Geese

Cultural reference: The game with the same procedure is called “Fox and Geese” in some regions of Poland. Procedure Two children are chosen to be the Wolf and the Shepherd. The rest of children are geese. Two children are chosen to be the Wolf and the Shepherd. The rest of children are geese.

The wolf stands in the corner of the playground square. The shepherd stands opposite his geese. The Shephard says: “Come back home, my geese!” Geese: “We are afraid.” Shepherd: “What are you afraid of?” Geese: “The angry wolf.” Shepherd: “Where is he?” Geese: “In the wood.” Shepherd: “What’s he doing?” Geese: “He’s catching geese.” Shepherd: “How many did he catch?” Geese: “A lot.” Shepherd: “Come back home, my geese!”

As soon as the Shepherd says: “Come back home, my geese” the children being geese run to the shepherd pretending flying. At the same time the Wolf runs out of his place to catch one goose at least. At the same time the Wolf runs out of his place to catch one goose at least.

If the Wolf succeeds he takes the goose to his place.

The goose turns to be a Wolf. So, there are two wolves.

The rest of children being geese go to their place (“the meadow”) standing in front of the Shepherd.

The Shepherd asks geese to fly back home. Two wolves catch the rest of geese.

The caught geese turn to be wolves.

More geese are cought. They turn to be wolves and catch geese.

The game is finished when all geese are caught by the wolves.

All are happy.
