Hebrews 13:18-25 Closing Prayer & Greetings

vs 18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things. Vs19 And I urge you all the more to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

vs 20, 21 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Why the Shepherd?

Sheep need a shepherd to meet their needs: 1) To lead them 2) To feed and water them 3) To cleanse them 4) To guard them

As the Good Shepherd, Jesus died for the sheep (John 10:11). As the Great Shepherd, He lives for the sheep. (Heb. 13: 20). As the Chief Shepherd, He will return for the sheep (1 Pet 5:4).

Vs 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, What are some of those good things?  Angels sent to minister to us 1:14  So great a salvation 2:3  Rest for our souls 4:9  A Great High Priest, who can sympathize with our weaknesses 4:15  Access to the throne of grace 4:16  A sure and steadfast hope 6:19  A great High Priest who ever lives to make intercession for us 7:25  The New covenant 8:10-11  Jesus’ promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. 13:5

* How does He equip us?  Through Scripture 2 Tim. 3:16–17  Through spiritual gifts Eph. 4:11–12  Through suffering 1 Peter 5:10

* For what is He equipping us? He equips us to do His will vs 21 Doing God’s will is a joint venture between a believer and God. God’s commandment comes with God’s enablement.

* Why does He equip us? 1) To please Him Vs 21 …working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, 2Cor. 5:9 “Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.” 2) To glorify Him …through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Vs 22 But I urge you, brethren, bear with this word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. Vs 23 Take notice that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom, if he comes soon, I shall see you. Vs 24 Greet all of your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you. Vs 25 Grace be with you all.
