Biology as a Science

Biology Biology is the study of life and living things A Biologist is anyone who uses the scientific method to study living things

Branches of Biology There are many different types of biology and biologists Each type is called a branch of biology We will talk about 5 branches of biology

Branches of Biology The 5 branches of biology are Molecular level Cellular level Multicellular level Population level Global Level

Molecular Level Biology starts at the molecular level Molecular biology refers to the biological chemicals Examples : Molecular Biologists might look at how DNA works and the chemicals that make up DNA

Molecular Biology

Cellular level Cellular level biology is where we first see signs of life Cellular biologists look at biology one cell at a time Examples: A cellular biologist might look at how cancer attacks living cells

Cellular Biology

Multicellular level Multicellular biology is the biology of complex organisms A complex organism is anything that is made up of multiple cells doing many different jobs Examples: Medical doctors are one type of multicellular biologists because they look at how the body and its parts work together.

Multicellular Biology

Population Level Some biologists look at populations of living organisms and how they interact with the environment Example: A population biologist might look at how birds migrate during the winter.

Population Biology

Global Level Global biology is the study of everything on the planet and how it interacts with all the organisms living on Earth Example: A global biologist might want to look at how human beings could help the planet by finding out what can be recycled

Global Biology
