The BackPack Program “Carrying HOPE home” SCM
THE WHY? All elementary schools in Wilkes County are TITLE ONE schools. TRANSLATION: Over 50% of their total student population qualifies for FREE/REDUCED meals. Over 5,500 children are at-risk of going home to little or no food in their homes.
THE FACTS Studies have shown that even short periods of malnutrition can AFFECT children’s behavior, cognitive development, and FUTURE productivity.
“Leveling the Playing Field” Educational failure has been linked to under nutrition- among impoverished children
