Background The University of Lodz since 2003 participated in the American – Polish Program (indirect offset), contracted bythe Ministry of Economy of Poland US Partners (2003 +)  University of Texas at Austin  IC2 Institute / Univ. of Texas (program management)  Austin Technology Incubator  Lockheed Martin Corporation (program funding) Know-how transfer from UT to University of Lodz developed a new center focused on:  Tech-transfer, technology commercialization  Support for development innovative entrepreneurship and academic entrepreneurship  Strengthening relations science – business – public sector  Education in the area of innovative business, innovation and technology management

Our programs and support for:  University of Lodz scientists, students and graduates  Inventors, individuals and teams planning to start the innovative companies  New and young companies operating in high-tech sector  Small, medium size and micro companies implementing their own innovation or searching for innovation, partner, access to market in Poland and abroad  R&D institutes and universities planning to commercialize the results of research work and technologies

The commercial and market potential evaluation of technology and innovation Commercial potential estimation methods  The analysis and verification of the market potential  Commercialization strategy development  Business plans development Specialist groups  Training for teams and individuals in the commercialization potential review  Showing the process and procedures in commercialization  Support in the report development to set-up next commercialization levels Creativity evaluation  Indication of new technology and innovation solutions and use – recommendations to the customers  Technology level / creativity level  Additional benefits resulting from use  Customers - for example: Investment Funds (Polish/mixed capital seed capital / VC funds planning investment in high-tech),

Education: Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialization  Postgraduate studies (12 months course)  Studies licensed by University of Texas at Austin to Univ.of Lodz  Participants meet technology evaluation methods developed in NASA and University of Texas at Austin  4 editions of studies in ; participants: 40 companies, 25 research institutions or science- technology parks, individuals

Main Programs / Activities Education: Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialization, other training programs (6 Module Training) Commercialization plans for the technologies prepared by the students of MSSTC and other training program Examples:  3D Images – new technology for film, TV, computer games (optics, IT)  Bacterial Celulose – wound dressing for burns, new material in cosmetology (biotech)  Chomsky’s Supercharger Dust burning system in power boiler  Plazar – plazma burner (material ingeenering)  Commercialization of absorbed aluminium solar trunk sewer  Managament information system for transport sector (ICT)  Implementation of image analysis for biological tests (ICT, biotech)  Implementation of the innovative device for freezing food  Food supplements for bakery goods

Organization and management of the annual (3rd edition) „Competition for Innovative Ideas” 2008  Dedicated especially for micro-companies, start-ups, spin-offs; important participants: students and graduates, scientists  Organized in the cooperation with funding institutions, like venture capital and seed capital funds, business angel organizations, which want to invest in high-tech „young” businesses  Organized in the cooperation with the local authorities (city of Lodz, regional authorities) and other partners (like the science & technology Technopark Lodz)  In 2007 edition: 60 applications of innovative businesses, mostly students and graduates, some scientists, some inventors from outside of academia
