Summary At the end of this class, you should be able to critically assess the concept of “development” and recognize the politically charged nature of the term. You should also be familiar with the techniques used to measure poverty, and the danger of using only monetary measures in isolation from other ways of measuring human well being. You should also be able to describe the scope and character of global disparities, and be able to communicate some of the basic data on these disparities to others in conversation.
