UN-HABITAT: 1/3 of the World’s 3 billion urban population are slum dwellers If present trends continue, there will be 2 billion of them by 2030

55-60% of Nairobi’s population live in informal settlements they live in 168 slums that occupy 5% of the residential land area

Mathare: people live on 4 km 2 excluded from planning and provision of infrastructure and services 1 toilet for 400 people  flying toilets
