Stroke subtypes The use of anti-thrombotic agents is complicated by the existence of different stroke etiologic subtypes, each of which imparts a differential risk of outcomes. In the early hours of presentation with an acute stroke, the mechanism of the infarction is frequently not clear and decisions regarding therapy are based on presumptive diagnostic subtypes.
