Tools and resources Summary of working group discussion
Five focal areas 1. Common representation 2. Treebank usage tools (editors...) 3. Exchanging annotation manuals 4. Treebank creation tools 5. Treebank evaluation tools
1 Common representation format Create a specification of a common representation format (speech and text) Every framework must be able to be saved in the common format without loss of information (both ways), but loss between frameworks is possible
2 Treebank usage tools Gather requirements for a treebank query language Explore the possibility of using common query, editing and visualisation tools
3 Exchanging annotation manuals Discuss the analysis of different Nordic languages Create a web page giving overview of the linguistic analysis at different sites (e.g.,”how do they define NP?”) Publish definitions of the grammatical analysis separate of a particular analyzer
4 Treebank creation tools Create an inventory of existing tools used in the Network, taggers, parsers, machine learners Create a rough categorisation of frameworks Exchange experiences from different frameworks
5 Treebank evaluation What’s good, what’s bad Identify criteria for good treebanks and tools
Tasks For each of the above areas –identifying and listing existing resources (web page) –ask network members to contributre short summaries + links of the above –ask for volunteers to provide an edited summary of the resources Create an archived mailing list for discussion Organise a workshop on tools and resources Nominate a work package leader: Mathias
