Review of chemical engineering courses CME 200 – All problems involve processes, feeding things in and taking things out. How do you determine what comes out once you feed something in?- Mass and Energy CME 320 – Laws that help solve engineering problems, phase equilibria, CME 415 – How to separate chemicals CME 425 – Transfer of heat and mass across a system (diffusion, heat addition/removal) CME 420 – Modeling chemical engineering processes CME 330 – Flow through pipes, pumps, valves, CME 470 – Safety and Ethics CME 550 – Reactors, choosing and designing CME 462 – Automation control of processes CME 433 – Lab experience, applying knowledge learned in other classes to experiments. CME 455/456 – Applying knowledge learned in other classes to designing a chemical engineering process/plant.

Don’t sell your books You will use information from one course in the next. Even Calculus, Chemistry and Physics!!

Electives Available Apply chemical engineering principles to specialized areas –Polymers –Environmental –Bio –Fuel Sciences –Catalysis

Other areas of emphasis integrated throughout the curriculum Teamwork – Multidisciplinary Communication – Written and Oral Life Long Learning

University Studies Social Science (2 courses in two separate disciplines) Humanities (2 courses) Cross Cultural ( 1 course)

Electives Supportive Elective: Any course that is not more elementary versions of required courses Technical Elective: List given on page 3 of curriculum sheet CME Elective: Must have CME prefix CHE Elective: List given on page 2 of curriculum sheet.

New Course EGR 199 – Computational Tools for Chemical Engineering 2 hours – one hour lecture, one hour in computer lab Pilot stages so it is currently not required but highly recommended. Replaces CS 221 course Covers Excel, Maple, Aspen, Numerical Methods.

Do I have to take courses as written on the curriculum? CME core courses – yes! Courses are usually only offered once per year and are pre-reqs for others. Other courses – electives and Univ Studies – No!

Engineering Standing Requirement GPA of 2.7 in CHE 105, 107, MA 113, 114, 213, 214, PHY 231, 232, 241, ENG 101, 102 Passing grade in CS 221 or EGR 199 (Computational Tools) “C” or better in CME 200 Upper division courses starting with CME 415 require Engineering Standing

Graduation Requirements Must have cumulative GPA of 2.0 or more Must complete departmental courses and technical electives with GPA of 2.0 or more

Other Academic Requirements Read Probation and Suspension Rules in your bulletin pg 59 – 60. College of Engineering has additional rules on page 60.

Other Opportunities CME 395 Research on a chemical engineering project Projects given during registration – Must talk to faculty member first before registering. Requires engineering standing and other pre-reqs set by faculty member Can take two times – can only count as CME elective once

Other Opportunities Environmental Certificate Program 3 required courses - CE 352 Intro. to Environmental Eng. (Supportive Elective) - BIO 208 Principles of Microbiology (Technical Elective) - Organic Chemistry (Already required) 12 hours of electives – 3 hours outside of major - 6 hours count as CME electives - 6 hours of extra courses.

Other Options Pre-med Curriculum For students interested in pursuing a medical degree after BS in chemical engineering Includes courses needed for medical school. Currently revising curriculum and should be ready soon.

Things that we are working on Nano-Engineering Certificate Program –Currently under review by College Emphasis in bioengineering and/or biopharmaceutical engineering –Currently being developed
