2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL TECHNOLOGICAL PRIORITIES

2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 Next collaborative call will take place mid-2006 for activities conducted from 2007 to 2009 About 10 projects will be selected These projects will be technological activities on space systems and will cover roughly TRL 1 to 5 A list of preliminary prioritary themes has been established, but without definitive exclusion We are ready to analyze other themes you may propose before the end of the present year List of preselected themes : atomic clocks, ultra stable oscillators technologies, high power RF modeling, RF design software, fluid loops and heat pipes, Radioisotopic Heating Unit / Radioisotopic Thermoelectric Generator, fuel cells, new technologies for electric propulsion, new technlogy for chemical propulsion (green propellant), aerothermodynamics, radiations : data collection and modelisation, nano electronic, images processing, ….. TECHNOLOGICAL CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL Generalities

2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 TECHNOLOGICAL CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL RF topics description Atomic clocks : next generations of GNSS will require higher performances equipments ; different new technologies are envisaged : vapour cell using double radio-optical resonnance, Coherence Population Trapping, cold atoms,…The objective of this project could be to adress both scientific theoretical and technological issues, as well as to demonstrate the associated performances (NEW TOPIC) : J. DELPORTE Ultra stable oscillators technologies : the objective of this project could be noise and sensibility to the environment reductions and also mass, power, … reductions ; technologies as RF, hyperfrequency, hyperfrequency/opto technologies are envisaged (NEW TOPIC) : G. CIBIEL High power RF modeling : mainly oriented toward Multipactor effect ; study of multipactor effects in coaxial lines, or in microwave filter with complex geometry (cavity filter with non parallel metallic walls, cavity filter with incurved walls,…). The aim of these studies is to obtain filter structures which can handle very high power without discharges risks (CONTINUING PROJECT) : J. PUECH RF design software : the aim of the proposed study is to implement European MMIC PHEMT and MHEMT foundry (OMMIC and UMS) in the library of the LOCUS software actually under development at TOMSK University (Ru), and to design with this software an MMIC Low Noise Amplifier for Ka Band Space applications (NEW TOPIC) : C. LAPORTE

2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 TECHNOLOGICAL CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL Thermal, power and propulsion topics description (1/2) Fluid loops and heat pipes : mainly around cryogenic fluid loops for scientific missions ; the project could be, after manufacturing of a new cryogenic capillary pumped 2 phases fluid loops, to evaluate such loop (LHP or CPL) working at 80 K (NEW TOPIC) : A. LARUE Radioisotopic Heating Unit / Radioisotopic Thermoelectric Generator : deep space exploration (moon, mars,…) requires such equipments ; the project could be to optimise a low power RTG around few Watts in the performance range of 1 W/kg : improvement of electrical efficiency, utilisation of new thermoelectric materials, optimization of the fuel and the radiation protection (surety protection in case of failure),… (CONTINUING PROJECT) : JP. CATANI Fuel cells : Thanks to the performances of new cationic membranes, fuel cells have known vast developments in the frame of terrestrial applications, this system being also compatible with space uses (possibility to work in zero gravity) ; an adaptation for space is possible by the means of reasonable efforts. Applications are not only devoted to manned flights but also to launchers by using cryogenic propellants. The main tasks of adaptation are to be performed in the frame of reliability and space mechanical environment working (NEW TOPIC) : G. GAVE

2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 TECHNOLOGICAL CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL Thermal, power and propulsion topics description (2/2) Electric propulsion : (CONTINUING PROJECTS) on HET : studies high power, high voltage, erosion, theoretical physical understanding,… Also improvement of the knowledge on the interaction of thrusters with test chambers : F. DARNON on PPT : low power improvement, theoretical physical understanding,… : E. CHESTA Chemical propulsion : N. PILLET on N 2 O : long duration tests on this catalytic propellant (CONTINUING PROJECT) on cold gases : it could be proposed to evaluate propulsion performances, building blocks equipments, liquified gas storage,… (NEW SUBJECT) on hydrazine : it could be interesting to evaluate the compatibility of NEI sources of procurement (russian,…) to use them in west european satellites (NEW TOPIC) Aerothermodynamics : depending on next deep space international programs, it could be interesting to study topics as radiations, catalysis, parachute technologies,… (TOPIC TBC) : P. OMALY

2006 CNES/INTAS PreparationMOSCOW & Kyiv – 17 to 21 October 2005 TECHNOLOGICAL CNES/INTAS NEXT CALL Electronic & processing topics description Radiations : in orbit data collection and modelisation ; the objective is to developp a new radiation belts international models to replace present AE8/AP8 ; a COSPAR initiative is at present in progress and this project could help to go faster on this subject (CONTINUING PROJECT) : R. ECOFFET Nanoelectronics : to identify potentialities and mainly reliability management of nanoelectronics and nanomaterials for MEMS and MST (TOPIC TBC) : F. PRESSECQ Images processing : several high resolution panchromatic optical sensors have been launched in the past years (IKONOS, QUICK BIRD, ORBVIEW) or will be launched soon (PLEIADES in 2007) ; in the other hand, several multispectral and hyperspectral systems have also been launched (ASTER, CHRIS,…) but with coarse resolutions ; a lot of data are now available and the project could be to merge such different data to obtain high resolution multispectral images, by defining new physical fusion methods (NEW TOPIC) : C. LATRY & F. ADRAGNA
