EU and International Relations Area: establishment and developments

2001: Main Objectives Increase relations with foreign institutions, national and international organisations Increase efficiency of international area Spread on line and e – information Increase the participation of the University to EU and international programs

Status quo in 2001 International Office ( General Affairs area): support of rector and vice rector for IR in international events, delegations, international programs, bilateral agreements… Erasmus Office : outgoing and incoming erasmus mobility No EU research units

Main actions Increase participation to UE and international projects Increase attendance to international meetings and conferences Increase membership to international networks Giving support to the presentation of european projects Strengthening the links with EC offices Training the staff on international issues Creating a data base of international and EU agreements Spread information through website, mailing lists, newsletters, meetings….

Main and evident obstacles Dimension ►communication Too different requests from the stakeholders ( scientific area, level of preparation…) Selfishness of researchers Lack of experienced staff ( international culture, personal relations and communication, flexibility, knowledge of languages, knowledge of ICT…) Difficulties in international training Different and contrasting request to the IR staff ( Travel agency and project manager at the time) Low level of cooperation with other administrative offices

EU and International Relations Area 8 full time staff –Bilateral Unit (3 staff ) Bilateral and multilateral agreements, renewals and funding, data base of international agreements, International Projects for joint curricula, Visiting professors, joint research projects, non EU student mobility -UE Programmes (3 staff ) Information and assistance on EU mobility, training and research programmes, management of two Leonardo projects, Erasmus Mundus, Monthly Newsletter, Organisation of Information days and workshops, info for the website, - Cooperation and Third Countries programmes (1 staff ) Support and follow up to the actions of the Committee for International Relations and the Committee for the Aid Development Relations with Networks, Ministries and International Organizations, Financial Affairs, etc. -Vice Rector and General Secretariat (2 staff, 1 part time contract) Calls and grants, International Events, International outgoing and incoming visits, Organization and hosting of foreign delegations in cooperation with the Rector’s Secretariat New Service (2005) European Project Management Service ( 1 part time contract) 10 Foreign Students 150 hours collaboration
