RESULTS A)THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS, STANDARDS AND A COMMON LANGUAGE AIMED AT BRINGING THE DIFFERENT CP SYSTEMS CLOSER TOGETHER B)BETTER PREPARATION AND SELF PROTECTION OF THE POPULATION C)EUROPEAN NETWORK OF CP EXPERTS D)BETTER LOCAL AND REGIONAL RESPONSE TO NATURAL AND MANMADE DISASTERS

A) THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS, STANDARDS AND A COMMON LANGUAGE AIMED AT BRINGING THE DIFFERENT CP SYSTEMS CLOSER TOGETHER  Local Plan of Civil Protection: suggesting minimum standards or contents of one of the most important command-control mechanisms of CP  Glossary of CP for EU citizens: terms and definitions and visual signs of Civil Protection (pictograms)  Risk Mapping – A proposal for a common European methodology

A) THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS, STANDARDS AND A COMMON LANGUAGE AIMED AT BRINGING THE DIFFERENT CP SYSTEMS CLOSER TOGETHER

Rationale  Recasting of the 2001 civil protection mechanism highlights the importance of reinforcing preparedeness: –The assessment of civil protection capabilities (build scenarios to help identify available resources) – A modular approach (rapidely deployable and self-sufficient modules)

A) WHY A PLAN? CONTENTS AND AIMS OF A LOCAL PLAN OF CIVIL PROTECTION A local Plan of Civil Protection can be defined as: A plan drawn up by a local authority providing a set of organic data (territory’s main characteristics, risks, human and material resources, etc.) and procedures (command- control system, alarm system, model of intervention) related to the overall organisational arrangement of Civil Protection aiming to best respond to a given event and its consequences. ForecastProtectionPrevention System of CP main activities

A) WHY A PLAN? CONTENTS AND AIMS OF A LOCAL PLAN OF CIVIL PROTECTION

A)LOCAL PLAN OF CIVIL PROTECTION SUGGESTED MINIMUM CONTENTS

A) LOCAL PLAN OF CIVIL PROTECTION RESULTS/OUTPUTS:

A) GLOSSARY Objectives To provide citizens with useful terms that, together with a set of essential signs, will help guide peoples’ behaviour in emergency situations To make citizens aware of the role played by CP which goes far beyond merely dealing with emergency situations but in addition encompass complex activities of forecasting, prevention and protection. To make people aware of the main mechanisms, tools and procedures developed by local authorities, the prime actors called in to manage emergencies and safeguard people’s security and safety

A) GLOSSARY RESULTS/OUTPUTS:

A) RISK MAPPING – A PROPOSAL FOR A COMMON EUROPEAN METHODOLOGY  WG3 analysed and compared methods for Risk Mapping among different countries, selecting and proposing one best method, mainly based upon the one already successfully applied in the Province of Macerata  Risk Mapping is the process of identifying areas and their different risk exposure  This process shows the level of expected losses which can be expected in a given area, during a particulr time span, when struck by a set of hazards

A) RISK MAPPING – A PROPOSAL FOR A COMMON EUROPEAN METHODOLOGY AVALANCHES EARTHQUAKES FLOODS FLOODS ASSOCIATED TO DAMS BURST FOREST FIRES INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS LANDSLIDES SNOW STORMS AND SNOWFALL WINTER STORMS (WIND STORMS) HAZARD VULNERABILITY POPULATION BUILDINGS PRODUCTIVE AREAS CULTURAL GOODS INFRASTRUCTURAL NETWORKS TECHNOLOGICAL NETWORKS ENVIROMENTAL GOODS WG3 Simplified Risk Equation: R ISK = H AZARD * V ULNERABILITY
