Presentation transcript:

Born Oct. 18, 1926, St. Louis, Mo., U.S. singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was one of the most popular and influential performers in rhythm-and- blues and rock-and-roll music in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. Raised in a working-class African-American neighbourhood on the north side of the highly segregated city of St. Louis, Berry grew up in a family proud of its African-American and Native-American ancestry. Louis, he worked at an auto plant, studied hairdressing, and played music in small nightclubs. Berry traveled to Chicago in search of a recording contract; Muddy Waters directed him to the Chess brothers.Muddy Waters

1)”Roll Over Beethoven" reached #29 on the Billboard 2) “School Days” 3)"Rock and Roll Music" 4)”Sweet Little Sixteen" 5) "Johnny B. Goode."

Roll over Beethoven (lyrics) I'm gonna write a little letter, gonna mail it to my local DJ. Yeah an' it's a jumpin' little record I want my jockey to play. Roll Over Beethoven, I gotta hear it again today. You know, my temperature's risin' The jukebox's blowin' a fuse. My heart's beatin' rhythm and my soul keeps a-singin' the blues. Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news. I got the rockin' pneumonia, I need a shot of rhythm and blues. I caught the rollin' arthiritis sittin' down at a rhythm review. Roll Over Beethoven they're rockin' in two by two. Well, if you feelin' like it go get your lover, then reel and rock it. Roll it over and move on up just a trifle further and reel and rock with it, roll it over, Roll Over Beethoven, dig these rhythm and blues. Well, early in the mornin' I'm a-givin' you a warnin' don't you step on my blue suede shoes. Hey diddle diddle, I am playin' my fiddle, ain't got nothin' to lose. Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news. You know she wiggles like a glow worm, dance like a spinnin' top. She got a crazy partner, Ya oughta see 'em reel and rock. Long as she got a dime the music wont never stop. Roll Over Beethoven, Roll Over Beethoven, Roll Over Beethoven, Roll Over Beethoven, Roll Over Beethoven, dig these rhythm and blues.

In December 1959, Berry invited a 14-year-old Apache waitress whom he met in New Mexico to work as a hat check girl at his club. After being fired from the club, the girl was arrested on a prostitution charge and Berry was arrested under the Mann. After a trial and retrial, Berry was convicted, fined $5,000, and sentenced to five years in prison. Berry pleaded guilty to tax evasion and was sentenced to four months imprisonment and 1,000 hours of community service — doing benefit concerts — in 1979.

Chuck Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive, with lyrics focusing on teen life and consumerism, and utilizing guitar solos and showmanship that would be a major influence on subsequent rock music. To me he is the real king of rock but was ignored because of the color of her song.

Don't let the same dog bite you twice. It's amazing how much you can learn if your intentions are truly earnest. Rock's so good to me. Rock is my child and my grandfather.
