Corporate Environmental Management Structure Canon Inc. Global Initiatives Global Environment Promotion System Canon Americas /USA Environmental Initiatives Americas Environmental Management System Canons Corporate structure can be broken down into two parts, Canon Global, Canon Americas/ Canon USA, each has initiatives to support the higher Canon Group level Company goals and objectives. Proprietary & Confidential

3 Fundamental Strategies                            Energy Conservation THE 3 FUNDAMENTAL Strategies (what we called the 3 Pillars of our Global Sustainability Goals): Energy Conservation Canon is working to Reduce power consumption in product design for Total Electricity Consumption / Operational Mode requirements Create On demand output, IH and on demand fixing. Reduction of energy consumption in stand by mode 2. Resource Conservation “Factor 2” total life cycle analysis of resource use, reduction in size weight increased functionality, use of recycled materials, waste minimization efforts. 3. Elimination of hazardous substances. Through design and purchasing, Elimination of parts containing hazardous substances (lead, hexavalent chromium, brominated flame retards..) Canon restricts or prohibits 24 hazardous substances from its products. Elimination of Hazardous Substances Resource Conservation Proprietary & Confidential

Feedback on product performance Collection and Recycling Product Life Cycle Sales/ Logistics Feedback on product performance This goal is applied to all stages of the product lifecycle. Every stage has environmental impacts and opportunities to improve resource efficiency. Although we in the US are not involved with R&D, production… **Click** we still have a role to play, specifically in the sales and logistics operations and collection and recycling. Collection and Recycling Proprietary & Confidential

Global Initiatives Environmentally Conscious Products Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Compliant / Hazardous Substances Control Energy Efficiency such as International ENERGY STAR Green Procurement Program Smart design, i.e. smaller lighter products w/ greater capabilities Environmental Programs Toner Cartridge Return Program Global Warming Prevention and Energy Efficiency Green Logistics Environmental Activities and Education Canon has a number of Global initiatives which include not only in the design of our products but also in the areas of product stewardship, climate change prevention and community social and environmental activities. Proprietary & Confidential

RoHS Compliant Products/ Hazardous Substances Control Restricts the use of 6 Substances, Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls, Polybrominated diphenyl ether (flame retardants) Canon program goes beyond RoHS and prohibits, restricts or controls 26 substances Canon first to market RoHS compliant Products All Copiers, MFD’s, Printers, Cameras and Camcorders are RoHS compliant Regarding product design, Canon must meet global regulatory schemes. We manufacture for global distribution and one of our goals is to meet and exceed requirements around the world. One of these requirements is the EU’s RoHS Directive which restricts or prohibits 6 hazardous substances, lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and two forms of poly brominated flame retardants. Canon has eliminated the use of Chrome 6, Cadmium and all brominated flame retardants. We are in the process of switching over to lead free solder and are working towards elimination of mercury lamps Some of the other 24 include tributyl tin, chlorinated parafins, asbestos, antimony, azo dyes, formaldehydes, etc. just to name a few. Because of our efforts, Canon was the first to bring fully RoHS compliant products to market 7 months before the July 07 compliance date. Proprietary & Confidential

International ENERGY STAR New International Standards effective 4/07. Results in top 25% policy eliminates 75% of current IE qualified products. US EPA Program begun in 1992 (Canon IE original partner) Requires Total Electricity Consumption (TEC) and Operational Mode (OM) approach rather than only “sleep” mode’ energy use. Canon’s approach : compatibility of convenience with energy savings. ie. Quick start and On-Demand fusing. We recognized TEC most significant part of energy usage in the copy/printing process. Canon’s designs reflect this and incorporated TEC and OM in product development before new standards. Canon also support and is actively involved with the International Energy Star program. This is a new Standard was revised by EPA to meet international requirements. It is designed to fail 75% of current (old standard) equipment and to assign “top runner” status to the 25% that do meet the new levels of energy efficiency. The new standard involves the use of total electricity consumption and operational mode energy consumption rather than just rely on speed to sleep mode etc. Canon early on recognized the importance of TEC and OM as the only valid way to judge the energy efficiency of a product. They also understood that customer usability and convenience must also be balance. Our design meet both customer convenience as well as TEC and OM requirements. Proprietary & Confidential

Green Procurement Canon Chairs the JGPSSI (Japan GP Survey Standardization Initiative) and is a recognized leader in GP practices. JGPSSI collaborated with the US and EU on the Joint Industry Guide (JIG) to provide a uniform vendor form Comprehensive system of Supplier/product surveys, QC checks and reauthorization (4500 vendors) which encompasses all mfg operations Global Objective requires Green Procurement System establishment for all Sales Operations and subsidiaries. Canon Inc. has been selected to chair the Japan Green Procurements Survey Standardization Initiative which is a Japanese Industry group. JGPSSI works with their US and EU counterparts to establish one uniform procurement survey to simplify , customer / vendor requirements needed to assure, such things as RoHS compliance and individual corporate sustainability efforts. Canon was selected to chair this international effort based on our past success in GP activities. Our current GP program includes a comprehensive system of surveys, QC checks, product analysis and reauthorization. We currently have over 4500 authorized vendors supplying parts and services to our company. The Corporate Objectives require GP to be established at all sales operations and Canon Subsidiaries. Resource Conservation Focus on reducing weight and size in development stage while expanding functions. ie Color imageRUNNER iRC3380/C3380i are 8% lighter than previous models Recycle-conscious design E.g. Reduction in different resins, plastic component identification, easy dismantling, use of common parts and units Green Logistics (Supply Chain Management) E.g. Use of SPC techniques as well as product design i.e. small size, less weight more units shipped per load saves fuel, fewer trips, direct to customer shipping, reduction in back shipments, reduction in number of warehouse sites etc. Vision for 2010 Factor 2 resource efficiency One of Canon’s 3 Pillars is resource conservation. Part of this effort includes focusing on weight and size reduction while maintaining and expanding functionality and ease of use, design for recycling such as reduction in different resin types and identifying these resin types, use of recycled plastic components when possible and use of common parts and units. Additionally, we also use Green Logistics, such as special rail cars. Incidentally, size and weight reductions also support reduction in fuel use by allowing more units shipped per container and hence fewer trips. Canon has an overall goal called Factor 2 which I will explain in the next slide. Proprietary & Confidential

Vision for 2010 “Factor 2” This chart may look a little complicated but put simply it means we will increase the quality of products and services while raising environmental efficiency or put another way, our environmental assurance policy calls for the generation of maximum value with minimum resources. The goal, to double overall lifecycle environmental efficiency by 2010. The total amount of CO2 emissions in the entire lifecycles of all Canon Group products. Factor 2 is a calculation that takes total annual net sales divided by product life cycle carbon emissions. The result is an indication of resource use. Currently our resource number is 1.92 and on track to reach 2 by 2010. Proprietary & Confidential

Canon Global Goal Vision for 2010 Factor 2: “Double Canon’s resource efficiency” This slide presents Canon’s Global environmental Goal, which is: for all of Canon companies world wide to actively pursue maximization of resource efficiency In order to maximize our resource efficiency Canon has a vision for 2010 referred to as Factor 2 Factor 2 is an overall index by which we plan to at least double our resource efficiency, based on our performance from the year 2000. To achieve this target we will work to enhance the quality of our products and services, while using the same amount of resources. An example of what it means to reduce our environmental factor by 2 (***click***) is developing the technology and efficiency to drive our car twice the distance on the same amount of fuel we’re using. …… that’s exactly what we want to do at Canon with all of our products and services. Raw material procurement, production, logistics, sales, use, collection and recycling) in 2010 should at least be twice the number of 2000 (“Factor 2”). Factor 2 for 2005 (last year measured) was 1.87 100 % Fuel 10 Miles 100 % Fuel 20 Miles Proprietary & Confidential

Environmental Charter What does it mean for CUSA? It is a commitment our organization has made to show we value the environment and will take actions to minimize the potential for environmental impacts What does it mean on an individual level? Individuals should consider the environment when making business decisions Individuals should take actions to minimize their environmental impacts (such as recycling paper, cans, bottles etc. and minimizing consumption of materials) Our Environmental Charter has several levels of meaning to us. On the corporate level is shows a commitment our organization has made to the environment, and that we will take action to minimize potential environmental impacts On an individual level, the Charter reminds us all to consider the environment when making business decisions, and that we have a personal role to play in minimizing negative impacts and maximizing positive impacts.
