The idea of the project „Hopscotch. In search of vintage games” is to draw the youth away from sitting in front of the computer and to discern that not only the virtual world is beautiful. In the first year of the enterprise, together with the school from Estonia we carried out a survey among those connected with the knowledge of vintage games (e.g. kapsle, palant). We got the biggest amount of information from elderly people, which is of great importance since one of the aims of the project is building up the intergeneration bonds. During the first visit to Poland, out of a huge database, we chose some games from both countries. All the activities we have undertaken are based on the values of friendship, respect, goodness, sincerity, love, trust and tolerance. The very project is propagated in the form of brochures, multimedia presentations in other schools in the town and in the local environment. The Partner Project Comenius enables the fulfilment of the cognitive aims assumed by the schools; it enables the students to develop the curiosity of the world, get to know other cultures, tolerance and cooperative skills in different circumstances. It teaches the existence in the contemporary world and international cooperation and allows the students to improve their language skills. Both the schools have great experience in cooperation and implementing both projects and other actions on the national and international stage. MINI BASEBALL - point team game based on striking a small palant ball with a special bat called palant. History The traditions of this game go back to folk plays from the Middle Ages. Palant came to Poland in the reign of Sigismund III Vasa. A similar game was played in different regions of Germany and there is a possibility that it was transferred by Polish and German immigrants to America, where together with an old Indian game ‘chattaway’ it gave birth to baseball. The game developed in folk and school forms. In 19 th century it remained popular. In the 1980s it lost its significance. Nowadays, a very rare game! Number of participants – in the game there are two teams of players each Game time – 2x20 minutes with a 5-minute break; one can also play until one team scores the number of points established beforehand Venue – a palant pitch is a rectangle with the dimensions of 20x25 metres (the scheme of a pitch further) Accessories – a bat called palant (circa 70 cm long, diameter 4.5 cm on one and 3 cm on the other end), the palant ball weighing minimum 80 grammes, circumference cm, hard, filled with horsehair or oakum and covered with leather. Nowadays, a very good solution is to use a ground tennis ball. there are many types of palant game – we present the version similar to baseball

Course of the game: before the game the teams draw lots to establish the order and decide if they play within the time limit or for points the points can be scored only by the attacking team; the task of the defending team is the change of the roles as fast as possible The rules of the game Attacking team: the player of the attacking team (no 1) takes the position in the semicircle, throws the ball and strikes it as far as possible to the defence field. The strike is not valid if the player does not hit the ball with a bat, the ball does not cross the hitting line in flight, it crosses the side line of the pitch, the bat falls out of the player’s hand while striking or it drops down after striking beyond the striking semicircle – all these cases result in the loss of one of the “two lives” attributed to each player. Sending the ball out of play happens to the attacking player if they are caught between the bases by the ball crossing the hitting line. The loss of both lives results in sending the player out of play until the team changes from the attacking to the defending one. If the player (no 1) correctly strikes the ball, they put the bat away (drop it down) in the semicircle, run to the other bases still paying attention not to be sent out of play because of the hitting line. If they manage to run around all 4 bases, they get 1 point for their team. If they stop at one of the bases, they wait for the correct strike of another player (no 2) and continue their run. It may also happen that at the bases there will be 3 players and another one will strike the ball – if all of them get back to the 1 st base without being sent out of play. In this case they strike the ball in the order of running. Defending team: the defending team players are to catch the ball and throw it behind the hitting line as fast as possible. If while crossing the hitting line by the ball, one of the attacking players is between the bases, they are sent out of play. There is a way of sending the whole attacking team out of play – one should catch the ball in one hand three times directly in flight (various strikes) – then automatically the two teams change places. Attention!!! If at the bases there are attacking team players and all the others from this team have earlier been sent out of play and there is no one to strike the ball – the teams change places.

Index defence field – in this field there can only be defence players and they cannot leave this area. The exception is the situation when the defending team catches the ball and throws it behind the hitting line as fast as possible, and the ball stops between the defence line and the hitting one. The defence player has a right to enter the attack field and throw the ball further. attack field – in this field there can only be attack players, i.e. the currently striking one and the base players (except the above) defence line – the line separating the defence field from the attack field hitting line – after catching the ball, defence players throw it behind the hitting line as fast as possible. If the attack player runs between the bases and the ball crosses the hitting line at the same time, the player is sent out of play (loses their life). bases – places which attacking players run to after the correct strike. If the ball is struck far, the player can run the whole circle. If the player is in danger of sending out of play, they stand by one of the bases and wait for the next correct strike and continue their run – the distance between the bases depends on the possibilities – preferably circa 10 metres. striking semicircle – in this place only the currently striking player can stand – after the correct strike they can leave the bat in the semicircle because of the danger of being sent out of play (it results from the safety reasons – throwing the bat without control may be dangerous.)
