New SIF computer system and TLC digitisation Dan Whiter ASK Workshop June 2008, Stockholm

New things: TLC computer etc. RAID array Server for RAID array and web site

Old TLC system “Photonics Science” Box TLC ICCD Camera DV Recorder S-VHS Recorder Power to camera, controls gain, etc. TV Monitor “Ooh, pretty!” Light-sensitive Switch Controls power Digital video tapes. Changed every 3hrs. 25 fps, high quality. Radar runs etc only. S-VHS video tapes. Changed every 20hrs. 5 fps, low-ish quality. Normal campaign run. Disadvantages: Tapes need manually changing (no remote running) Tapes are expensive S-VHS tapes getting hard to find S-VHS quality isn’t great DV and S-VHS clocks drift

New TLC system “Photonics Science” Box TLC ICCD Camera DV Recorder S-VHS Recorder Power to camera, controls gain, etc. TV Monitor “Ooh, pretty!” Light-sensitive Switch Controls power Digital video tapes. Changed every 3hrs. 25 fps, high quality. Radar runs etc only. S-VHS video tapes. Changed every 20hrs. 5 fps, low-ish quality. Normal campaign run. TLC PC “Master clock” NTP synchronised Many advantages: Complete remote running All data is DV quality Better value data storage Data easier to use Keograms made in real- time Keograms and real-time image available on web No time problems

SIF RAID array and server 6TB RAID array, with redundant disks TLC computer has 300GB storage –lasts ~22 25fps, ~2 12.5fps TLC, HiTIES (and phot) data archived off to RAID array Server has LTO-2 drive – data written to tapes

Website – sif.unis.no Running on SIF server Similar to ASK page – some update scripts and php code were based on ASK, but have been made more efficient Contains automatically updated tape listings and RAID contents Real-time status page with HiTIES image, TLC image and keogram, and photometer plots Keogram “diary”

Website – sif.unis.no
