Information Technology Architecture Group (ITAG)‏ David Walker Information & Educational Technology University of California, Davis

Brief History Originally chartered by the ITLC in 2006  One meeting was held in early  A work plan was drafted and approved by the ITLC. ITLC interest in Kuali Rice at their Fall, 2008 meeting has resulted in a revitalization of ITAG This is the revitalized group's first meeting

Mission and Primary Goals “...to create and maintain, on an ongoing basis, a repository of architectural principles, standards, practices, common frameworks and preferred technologies for use throughout the UC system.”  Primary goals  Enabling integration  Interoperability  Sharing across the system

More from the Charge “Principles supporting data security, business continuity, and UC policies should inform the work of the group and be incorporated in its recommendations.” “The work of the ITAG will enhance sharing of applications and systems among UC campuses, enable constructive benchmarking among UC institutions, support the eventual creation of a UC source code repository and facilitate coordination with national standards bodies.”

Who We Are (To be determined), UC Berkeley David Walker, UC Davis (co-chair)‏ Marina Arseniev, UC Irvine (co-chair)‏ Nick Reddingius, UC Los Angeles Faust Gorham, UC Merced Russ Harvey, UC Riverside Emily Deere, UC San Diego (co- chair)‏ Surya Narayana, UC San Francisco Arlene Allen, UC Santa Barbara Lisa Gardner, UC Santa Cruz Greg Bell, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab Steve Hunter, UC Office of the President Pete Siegel, UC Davis (ITLC Liaison)‏

Our Current Assignments Review the proposed work plan for approval by the ITLC at its January meeting. (by December 15, 2008)‏ Complete the Kuali Rice assessment, as charged by the ITLC. (by February 1, 2009)‏ Described in “Proposal to Revitalize UC's IT Architecture Group (ITAG)” 

Proposed Work Plan (for 2007)‏ Develop an initial statement of principles and standards for UC architecture, incorporating those that were developed previous to the creation of ITAG. Develop a technical reference architecture for UC. Work with the Kuali and HRIS projects to identify common architecture elements for future projects. Work with the new security group to identify principles and standards to enhance security of IT systems. Work with the disaster recovery group to develop companion strategies for business continuity. Develop a strategy for work flow across UC's multiple applications. Research existing enterprise architecture models and document them on the wiki.

Kuali Rice Assessment A definition of the scope of middleware for the purpose of this assessment, including at least the scope provided by Rice A survey of needs for middleware at UC's locations How Rice meets (or does not meet) those needs Alternative solutions and whether they should be investigated further, either as alternatives to Rice, or for incorporation as components within the Rice framework Opportunities for interoperation among UC locations that adopt Rice
