Personalised Learning Environments (PLEs) Learners take control of and manage their own learning. Learners:  set their own learning goals  manage their learning; managing both content and process  communicate with others in the process of learning (adapted from a definition by Mark van Harmelen, JuneMark van Harmelen 2006).

Connected learning environments Connected learning is based on three principles:  Connection: Investigation, development and deployment of Internet-enabled technologies to connect people who have a goal i.e. education, personal interest, investigation  Experimentation : learning by doing in a safe, trusted environment  Learner-Centered: A greater degree of self- determination and customisation of the experience particularly in education
