Sustainable Energy Systems Int’l H 2 Safety Conf, Pisa, Italy, 8-10 Sep IPHE projects focus on pre-competitive collaborative research, development and demonstration activities IPHE projects leverage existing funds from IPHE countries funding mechanisms different for each country explore any existing agreements (bi-lateral, multi- lateral, other) Improved leverage of resources among IPHE partners in terms of required budgets and research infrastructures Promotion of common approaches for risk and safety assessment and risk management in similar applications Scoping Paper on RCS – safety not “how”, but “what“ and “by when”

Sustainable Energy Systems Int’l H 2 Safety Conf, Pisa, Italy, 8-10 Sep IPHE-ILC “expectations” from this ICHS event: network and explore collaborations establish and strengthen collaboration in IPHE- recognised projects via National Points of Contact provide recommendations to the IPHE Steering and Implementing and Liaison Committee on possible forthcoming joint-IPHE projects

Sustainable Energy Systems Int’l H 2 Safety Conf, Pisa, Italy, 8-10 Sep provide a forum for information exchange and discussing collaboration, from where recommendations can be forwarded to policy- and decision makers of IPHE members. identify scope of R&D activities which can benefit from IPHE collaboration IPHE Scoping Papers act as a catalyst for cooperation and for facilitating harmonisation of activities by IPHE members related to topics identified in Scoping Papers and in IPHE events organise workshops/ conferences define and agree on “IPHE” project qualifiers Set up project evaluation team – compliance + content check feed evaluation results to Steering Committee Facilitating function for IPHE-ILC

Sustainable Energy Systems Int’l H 2 Safety Conf, Pisa, Italy, 8-10 Sep Compilation and sharing of experimental data and development of a database for hydrogen safety assessment of different applications, including full-scale test data. Collection of already available industry standards and establishment of a common basis for risk assessment, for risk acceptance criteria, for definition of hazard zones, for modelling and experimental activities on a worldwide scale by taking into account different regional requirements and levels of technical and educational advancement. Prioritisation of development and validation needs for analytical and numerical models required for the safe use of hydrogen in different applications, definition of scenarios for computational modelling. Consideration of joint programs in large (full scale) experimental work within safety, e.g. crash tests of vehicles, hydrogen leaks in tunnels and garages, etc. Topics for IPHE facilitation proposed in RCS Scoping Paper
