BACKGROUND OF THE BOOK The story is talking about an amusement park mechanic named Eddie who died by trying to save a little girl. When Eddie died, he found himself in heaven where he soon learned that he would meet five people. They would explain to him the meaning of his life. The book begins by detailing Eddie's movements during his last hour alive.

"All ending are beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..." Eddie is a grizzled war veteran. He thought he was trapped in a meaningless life of fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. His days were full of monotonous work. He felt lonely. He changed from optimistic youth to embittered old age after a long period of time. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie died in a tragic accident and then the story began.

When he woke up, he still found himself at the amusement park but nobody was there. He didn’t know he was dead He started his new life in the heaven, which meant he would meet the five people one by one. In fact, the five people he had already meet when he was surviving Then, he met the five people again and they taught him something which made him to change his attitude towards life.
