PALM-3000 HOWFS - 2/20/09 C. Baranec

PALM-3000 HOWFS Current optical testing Review of Feb 8 th HOWFS update Detailed future tasks 2

PALM HOWFS – Current status Passed through PDR - May 2008 Presently being assembled in Cahill

PALM-3000 HOWFS - Initial Alignment High-resolution of HOWFS image plane (with 3.5 µm/pixel CMOS sensor) 4 s = 8s = 16 s = 32s = 64

PALM-3000 HOWFS – New feature 5 ‘Pupil’ viewing mode: –Currently exhibiting pupil ellipticity of 1.80% –Required: 1.70% for a 10.5° AOI on HODM

PALM-3000 HOWFS – S-H pattern Current average size of Shack-Hartmann patterns undersized by 1.6%. Patterns different sizes by 0.15%, (2 sigma of measurement error. Possibly caused by being slightly out of focus…) X-Y difference in size is 0.07% (Zemax predicts this should be higher, ~2%, with current stand-in cylindrical lens.) 6

PALM-3000 Review of Feb 8 th update 7

PALM-3000 Summary of Tasks 1/2 List required modes for SciMeasure (Use CIN 633) – (CB + ?, ~1 day) Test the camera modes – RN/DC (JR, ? days) New HOWFS structure (inc. ACam, CCD50 adjustment, fold flat) – (ME, ?) HOWFS baffling - (ME, ?) Document alignment plan - (CB, 1 day) Labview alignment feedback - (*CB+, 3 days) Automation of ESP300 – (?, 0.25 days) Realign telescope simulator – (CB, 1 day) 8

PALM-3000 Summary of Tasks 2/2 Second alignment (prior testbed) – (CB, 7 days) Amendments to alignment procedure – (CB, 1 day) During downtime (>April 2010) Spec., purchase collimator, cylinder – (CB, 3 days) Install and test new optics – (CB, 3 days) Integrate with rest of system – (CB, AB, JR, ?) 9

PALM-3000 Summary Total labor: CB – 20 days JR – CCD testing modes, integration ME – mechanics AB – integration Fabrication costs: SciMeasure camera modes - ? Mechanical fabrication - ? Optical mounts ≤5x XYTT mounts - $1250 New optics (col, cyl) - $
