Prayer Lord, thank you for calling us to be your children and your servants. Thank you for those traditions of the church which have nurtured us and comforted us over the years. We grieve for those who have never experienced your love, and for those have turned away from you. We think of friends and family members of whom that is true. Thank you that you are the God of new beginnings— for creation itself, for your call to Abraham and Sarah, for bringing Israel out of slavery in Egypt into the Promised Land. Thank you for bringing the people back from exile in Babylon, and giving them a fresh start in the land. Above all, thank you for the new beginning represented by the coming of your Son Jesus to our world. And thank you for the times in our own lives when you have given us grace to begin again.
