Job Corps and ARRA Job Corps received funding under President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). ARRA seeks to implement measures that will invest in and promote long-term economic benefits and recovery. In order to achieve economic stability, the administration is placing a priority on enhancing energy- efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Job Corps and ARRA Job Corps developed a plan to use the funds to accomplish two main goals: 1) create jobs and stimulate economic activity across the nation, and 2) support the administration's priority of environmental stewardship. This plan will reach many different aspects of the Job Corps program: – Employ local workers for center construction projects. – Train students for green jobs. – Incorporate green practices into center life. – Get students and staff involved in center environmental projects.

Stimulating the Local Economy A primary goal of ARRA is to stimulate the economy in the short term and invest in education and other essential public services to ensure the long-term economic health of our nation. Job Corps is doing its part to stimulate the economy in both the short term and the long term: – Short-term gains: Creating jobs for American workers Public-private partnerships Employing local workers for center construction projects Using local resources for center construction projects – Long-term gains: Placing graduates in green jobs Investment in education Job Corps will be graduating students who have more skills, and are ready to enter the workforce with valuable knowledge and know-how.
