Welcome! Global Challenges and Sustainable Futures ”Global to Local” Group Project Tutorial 14 September 2010

”Global to Local”

Project: From Global to Local Transfer global challenges to the scale of cities. One of the course goals to achieve: “Account for different causes to and possible solutions to the sustainability challenge in a specific city or region, and be able to relate these to global challenges within the sustainability field” Time: Tutorial, connect to lectures and literature, individual- and groupwork. Strategic planning, conflict management, decision making and cooperation Examination: Final Project You also have to attend the tutorial of, and finish the “From Global to Local” city group project that includes a written paper and a group presentation and opposition to another group at the end of the semester.

Overview Work in groups of six Individual part Part you will write together Understanding of planning, interest conflict management, urban rural interactions, sustainability prosectives How to work in groups, opponing, good presentations, writing scientifically Presentations end of the year (written and oral)

Tutorials Support and guidance for the project

Project instructions Choose a region. Learn about it. Connect to your interest area. Work in groups. Come up with ”innovative” ideas for the region. Present it.

Written part Find both problem and solutions together in the group. However, the paper should contain an individual part - where you describe how your capital relates to the problem. The second part you all have to write together - the introduction and suggested solutions’ as well as conclusion for the entire paper.

Criteria for written and oral presentations Please read this carefully in the “Project Instructions” The final paper is due on the 23 of November, 12:00 am. it to: (Make sure the Subject line of the is titled: “PROJECT “Your City”. For example: Project Cape Town)

How to do a good presentation? Make sure you keep the time max 15 minutes presentations! Use keywords if using ppt. Be creative in your presentations! Know what you are talking about, have confidence. Don’t be afraid to express your own opinions. Talk loud and clear. All group members must take part of the presentation (if you have not talked to us about otherwise). Enjoy, have fun! (…and not like this)
